RPGs
I love video games but a lack of broad band connection and an almost non-existent interest in Dungeons and Dragons-type games has limited my appreciation for RPGs (Role Playing Games). To remedy this, to expand my knowledge, to connect with one more student faction, and to have a 506 project, I intend to participate in two online RPGs. One is a Star Wars MUD and the other is RUNESCAPE. Both allow the player to write to other players during the game. The MUD seems to be like a choose-your-own-story book, but with other players interacting with you (weird, and exciting). RUNESCAPE, has numerous worlds with preset stories. Both are free and easy to sign on too. I know very little about these games at this point other than they are very popular. If anyone has tips for beginners (especially for the MUD), I would greatly appreciate them. If you don't have tips, you can still make comments.

Hi Matt,
I was searching today for sites to use fantasy lit in the classroom, and I found this one for graphic novels, in particular BONE:

It looked quite extensive! Hope this helps!
I'll pass it along to James too...

Matt,
I have no tips, but I'm very interested in learning more about this from you. How would you use this in an English classroom?
Matt,
I'm not all that into video games, but I have played a few RPG's when I was younger (10th gradeish). Of corse, this was before most people were playing with others online. My friend and I would sit at the computer for HOURS eating club crackers and trying to progress through the game. I can definitely see why people are so into these kind of games...you can be another person and get lost in another world, just like a book. For me, the experience was similar to reading, but at times it was even more vivid.
But I have a possible source of good information for both you and James...once I talk with a co-worker, I'll let you know more about it. But I think, if I remember correctly, that her husband has actually designed a role playing game that he plays with his friends. At any rate, he's really into video games.
Matt,
Found an interesting online comic you might want to check out. Appatently, it was written and drawn in just 24 hours, but it's still really good.
Oh, and it's called "Life With Death"
